
Software Engineering Lead - Development Support (Tempus)

As a Software Engineering Lead within PNC's Tempus Technologies organization, you may be based in a remote location. We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Software Engineering Lead to lead a team responsible for advanced development support and critical issue resolution across a diverse technology landscape. This role combines technical leadership, software engineering expertise, and Tier 4/L3 support capabilities to ensure rapid resolution of complex production issues while driving continuous improvements in platform reliability, developer productivity, and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate is an experienced technical leader who is comfortable moving between multiple technologies, mentoring engineers, and partnering with development, support, infrastructure, and cloud engineering teams to solve challenging problems. This position will also require occasional off-hours work for releases, support, troubleshooting, etc.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Development Support Engineers.
• Provide technical guidance and oversight for complex engineering and production support challenges.
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
• Serve as an escalation point for the most critical customer and production issues.
• Drive root cause analysis efforts and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Mentoring and working with remote and offshore resources with the flexibility to adjust working hours as required.
Advanced Development Support
• Own Tier 4 / Level 3 support processes for critical applications and services.
• Troubleshoot and resolve highly complex issues spanning application, infrastructure, database, cloud, and integration layers.
• Collaborate directly with development teams to identify defects and drive resolution.
• Participate in major incident management and post-incident reviews.
• Establish and improve support playbooks, monitoring strategies, and operational procedures.
Engineering & Solution Delivery
• Contribute hands-on to software development, debugging, code reviews, and architectural discussions.
• Support multiple applications and services built across various technology stacks.
• Design and implement tools, automation, and operational improvements to reduce support burden.
• Partner with engineering teams to improve system resiliency, observability, and maintainability.
• Identify opportunities to enhance platform performance and developer productivity.
Cross-Technology Expertise
• Navigate and support solutions across multiple programming languages, frameworks, and platforms.
• Quickly learn and evaluate new technologies as business needs evolve.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, security, cloud, and application teams on complex technical challenges.
• Support both legacy and modern cloud-native solutions.
Qualifications
• Proven experience providing advanced L3/Tier 4 support for enterprise applications.
• Strong software development background with experience troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple technologies and platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience supporting enterprise applications in Microsoft and Windows-based environments.
• Strong knowledge of Windows Server, IIS, .NET, Azure, and cloud-based application architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and observability tools.
• Experience with databases, APIs, distributed systems, and integration technologies.
• Familiarity with incident management, service reliability, and operational excellence practices.
• Experience driving automation and process improvement initiatives.This position may be eligible for remote work in select geographic locations, subject to approval by PNC. Base Salary: $86,250.00 – $172,500.00Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.Application Window
