
Software Engineer II - Platform Reliability Engineering (Remote)

Position Purpose:
As a Software Engineer II on the Platform Reliability Engineering team, you will help ensure the resilience, performance, and security of our enterprise Cloud Platform, working alongside partner RE and Enablement teams that support our critical Engineering Experience services. Building your expertise in Reliability Principles and Practices, you will execute against projects, remove toil through automation, participate in incident triage, perform root cause analysis, and contribute to no-repeat resolutions of systemic problems through blameless postmortems and problem management. Your mission is to help engineer reliability into our platforms through automation; rigorous change, incident, and problem management; and destructive testing, while supporting the Service Level Objectives (SLOs) that let product teams build and run customer-facing workloads on highly available, paved-path solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
- 60% Delivery and Execution - Collaborates and pairs with other product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions; Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met; Works with Product Team to ensure user stories that are developer-ready, easy to understand, and testable; Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases; Writes custom code or scripts to do destructive testing to ensure adequate resiliency in production; Program configuration/modification and setup activities on large projects using HD approved methodology; Configures commercial off the shelf solutions to align with evolving business needs Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively

Physical Requirements:
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be eighteen years of age or older.
- Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years of relevant work experience in a related engineering field (Systems, Software, Operational) or a reliability engineering domain
- Working knowledge of ITIL processes and the support and maintenance of production systems, including Change, Incident, and Problem Management
- Experience leveraging AI tooling to compress MTTD, MTTM, and MTTR
- Experience with common scripting and programming languages (BASH, Python, Golang, TypeScript, Java) and data serialization and configuration DSLs (YAML, JSON, HCL)
- Experience with infrastructure automation and orchestration tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- Experience working in Google Cloud Platform (or equivalent) projects and services, including infrastructure, Compute, Developer Tools, Security, and Identity and Access Management
- Experience with observability and monitoring tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry
- Understanding of container orchestration (Kubernetes/GKE) and modern microservice architectures
- Familiarity with Unix and Linux operating systems
- Exposure to security tooling (Wiz) and frameworks
- Experience executing destructive, performance, and failure-scenario tests, including participating in team drills that validate operational readiness
- Experience with modern debugging and root cause analysis techniques
- Experience with version control systems
- Understanding of SLOs and core SRE principles and practices
- Communication and collaboration skills, with experience producing operational status communications, real-time reporting to stakeholders, and documentation
