Senior Technical Content Development Engineer (India)

Karat

Remote (India - Bangalore ONLY) Full-time

We're Karat, the world's largest interviewing company.

Karat is transforming organizations around the world. We provide a powerful system for technical leaders at companies like PayPal, Atlassian, and Citi who want to take control of how they hire top engineers, elevate their teams and contractors, and stay ahead. At the core of Karat’s system are live, expert-led interviews, analytics designed to give leaders maximum visibility, and the most robust interview performance dataset in the world.

Interview Content at Karat

Karat's Interview Content team designs, writes, tests, and monitors the technical interview questions and scoring rubrics used in every Karat interview. From the questions candidates see to the rubrics interviewers score them against, our work spans technical domains from software engineering to data science and beyond.

What you will do

As a Senior Content Development Engineer, you'll design and build the most technically demanding interview questions Karat uses to assess software engineering candidates: complex, multi-step engineering scenarios and edge cases that other engineers escalate to you. This is not a traditional software engineering role; you won't be building or maintaining production systems. You'll write code to construct, test, and correct these problems and their reference solutions at a higher difficulty tier, using modern AI-assisted development tools and leading peer review to keep the content technically accurate and fair. You'll work closely with Content Architecture on complex format and standards questions, and use candidate performance data and interviewer feedback to diagnose and fix the hardest underperforming content.

This position requires a schedule that overlaps with U.S. business hours.
  • Design and build advanced technical interview content, including complex, multi-step coding exercises, debugging challenges, and real-world engineering scenarios at the highest difficulty tier.
  • Write and test interview content across multiple programming languages, taking on the technically hardest problems in the portfolio, including ones escalated by other engineers.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to speed up content creation, applying advanced engineering judgment to keep it accurate at higher complexity.
  • Lead peer reviews of interview content, providing technical feedback and setting the quality bar for complex material.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with underperforming content, using performance data, interviewer feedback, and Content Corrections requests, especially when the root cause isn't obvious.
  • Partner with Content Architecture on complex format decisions and help raise the technical bar for new content.
  • Help shape development standards, templates, and documentation for the team, with particular focus on difficulty calibration.

The experience you will bring

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience (post-academic, post-internship), with demonstrated work on complex systems or technically demanding problems
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including debugging, testing, and reviewing code, with experience giving technical feedback to other engineers
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist, or similar)
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Experience working remotely on global, distributed teams, with availability during US hours

This position is only available to candidates residing in Bengaluru (formerly known as Bangalore). While our team operates 100% remotely, we are currently limiting hiring to this specific location. Applications from other cities in India will not be considered at this time.

Applicants, please note: submissions not 100% in English will not be considered.
