Manifesto

We launched Axiosin January 2017 with a belief that remains urgent today: The world needs smarter, more efficient coverage of the topics shaping our fast-changing world. We pledged to put our Audience First, always.

We kept that promiseand remain an antidote to the chaos and noise. Now, we are turning our full focus to a deeper crisis faced by Americans: the erosion of truth, trust, safety and sanity in the news.

This is an existential threatto our democracy. It will require extraordinary effort by us and others to correct, and is one of the reasons why we are focused on expanding our reporting in local communities in America.

Our economy and way of life are also facing drastic changes from rapidly advancing artificial intelligence, via large language models, machine learning, and generative AI tools. These offer remarkable potential to journalism — but also real risks.

Axios is carefully experimentingand adapting some of these AI tools to give human journalists the ability to do more, faster. We follow ourCode of Ethicsand will be transparent on where and howAI is being used.

In this spirit, we offer the following Axios Bill of Rights, a list of promises to our audience. We urge you to hold us accountable for living up to our mission.

• We take full responsibility for everything we publish — and hold ourselves to the highest journalistic standards.

• We will never have an opinion section. Every item is written or produced to inform, analyze and explain. Axios will never be a platform for incitement or argument.

• We always strive to cover the topicsof greatest consequence with clinical, critical and balanced eyes, written in an engaging manner. To learn more about the fact-based framework guiding our coverage, read oureditorial ethics policy.

• We don’t play games with your dataor privacy. We aim to be as careful and transparent as possible, providing clear, intuitive ways for you to know how your data is handled. Our policy can be foundhere.

• We go the extra mile to earn your trust. If we get something wrong, we are transparent in our corrections. And, all employees are asked to refrain from publicly endorsing a politician or political stance.

• We believe high-quality journalism is important to our democracy and should not be an exclusive privilege, so we provide free access to the majority of our content.
