The ideal candidate is passionate about process improvement and excited to leverage emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to help build a more efficient and scalable accounting function.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership across General Ledger accounting, financial reporting, and technical accounting, driving accurate and scalable accounting operations and helping shape priorities across the broader Accounting organization.

  • Lead the annual financial statement audit and quarterly review processes, coordinating across the Accounting organization and managing the relationship with external auditors.

  • Own the preparation and review of monthly financial reporting, quarterly financial statements, and annual financial statements, including management of the reporting process in Workiva.

  • Lead technical accounting research and implementation for complex and emerging transactions, including preparation and review of accounting memos, policies, and conclusions under US GAAP.

  • Oversee stock-based compensation and equity administration and accounting.

  • Review financial statements and General Ledger accounts to ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual fluctuations are appropriately understood, analyzed, and documented.

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across assigned accounting areas, ensuring timely, accurate, and scalable financial reporting.

  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analyses, and supporting schedules to ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies.

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of accountants while fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, continuous learning, and operational excellence.

  • Drive the continued development and consistent application of accounting policies, internal controls, documentation, and reporting processes to support Virta’s growth and increasing organizational complexity.

  • Evaluate existing accounting processes and proactively design scalable solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and the employee experience.

  • Champion the responsible adoption of AI, automation, and emerging technologies across accounting operations, identifying opportunities to improve workflows and reduce repetitive activities while maintaining strong internal controls and auditability.

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, People Operations, Procurement, Engineering, and other business leaders to ensure accounting considerations are incorporated into strategic initiatives.

  • Take ownership of complex, cross-functional accounting initiatives and independently drive issues to resolution, partnering with Accounting Leadership and business stakeholders on matters that extend beyond assigned functional responsibilities.

  • Operate as a senior leader across the Accounting organization by setting a high bar for execution, influencing priorities, developing talent, and proactively taking ownership beyond defined functional responsibilities.

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Virta’s accounting operations, systems, and organizational structure.

  • Build strong relationships across key cross-functional business partners.

  • Take ownership of assigned General Ledger accounting processes and identify immediate opportunities to improve efficiency, controls, and scalability, including through leveraging automation and AI tools.

  • Assess the monthly close process, reconciliation framework, and review procedures, implementing quick wins where appropriate.

  • Establish credibility with the accounting team through thoughtful leadership, coaching, and clear expectations.

Must-Haves

  • CPA required, with 8+ years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong technical accounting foundation with deep experience across General Ledger accounting, financial reporting, and US GAAP, including experience navigating complex accounting matters.

  • Demonstrated experience leading complex monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting processes within a high-growth, public company, or public-company-ready environment.

  • Proven people leader with experience developing high-performing accounting teams, setting clear expectations, and creating accountability and ownership across the organization.

  • Strong business judgment and demonstrated ability to independently identify, evaluate, and drive complex accounting and operational matters to resolution.

  • Demonstrated success improving accounting operations through technology, automation, process redesign, and scalable internal controls.

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional partnership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate complex accounting matters into clear business implications.

  • Comfortable operating with significant ownership and autonomy in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities and increasing organizational complexity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Public accounting experience and/or experience operating in a public-company or public-company-ready environment.

  • Experience with NetSuite, Workiva, or similar ERP and financial reporting platforms.

  • Experience applying AI-enabled tools and automation to accounting workflows and processes.

  • Experience in high-growth healthcare, technology, or similarly complex businesses.

Virta has a location based compensation structure. Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.
