An overview of this role

The Enterprise Technology QA Manager is responsible for defining and leading the quality engineering strategy for GitLab’s business applications ecosystem, with strong emphasis on functional testing, automation testing, and AI-driven QA practices. This role partners across Enterprise Applications, PMO, AI & Automation team, and business stakeholders to improve release quality, reduce change risk, and increase confidence across systems that run critical business processes.

This leader owns QA strategy across core enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Zuora and related integrations, ensuring scalable coverage across lead-to-cash and quote-to-cash workflows. The role is expected to build reusable automation, strengthen functional validation, establish measurable quality standards, and operationalize AI to improve testing efficiency.

What you'll do

  • Define and lead the QA strategy for Business Applications, with accountability for functional quality, automation quality, release confidence, and defect prevention across the application portfolio.
  • Build and scale a quality engineering practice that supports enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Zuora and related systems and integrations that power core business operations.
  • Establish strong functional testing practices for end-to-end business processes, including configuration validation, workflow testing, role-based access validation, integration testing, and data reconciliation across systems.
  • Lead the design and expansion of automation testing frameworks and reusable automated test assets for UI, API, integration, and regression test coverage.
  • Partner with Business Applications, PMO, AI & Automation and business stakeholders to embed quality earlier in the delivery lifecycle and ensure clear release-readiness criteria for projects, enhancements, and production changes.
  • Own QA planning and execution for complex cross-functional processes spanning CRM,Billing and Support systems, and supporting data flows that impact business continuity and customer outcomes.
  • Track and communicate quality metrics including test coverage, test gaps, defect leakage, automation effectiveness, release quality, and team productivity, and use those insights to drive continuous improvement.
  • Define and implement an AI-driven QA approach, including opportunities for AI-assisted test design, regression impact analysis, defect summarization, log analysis, evidence generation, and test optimization.
  • Evaluate and operationalize AI capabilities using GitLab-native and external AI tools where they improve quality, speed, and insight while maintaining governance, traceability, and trust.
  • Build a documentation-first QA operating model with clear test plans, defect reports, traceability, release documentation, and async-friendly communication practices across global teams.
  • Hire, coach, and develop QA engineers and automation engineers, while creating clear standards for execution, accountability, collaboration, and career growth.

What you'll bring

  • 7+ years of progressive and demonstrated experience leading QA, quality engineering, or test engineering teams supporting Enterprise Business applications at scale.
  • 2+ years of Demonstrated experience managing or leading technical teams, with a track record of coaching, giving actionable feedback, and growing team members.
  • Strong hands-on and leadership experience in functional testing and automation testing for business applications such as Salesforce, Zuora, Zendesk systems.
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end business process testing across integrated enterprise applications, including upstream and downstream dependency validation.
  • Experience designing and scaling automated testing approaches across UI, API, workflow, integration, and data validation layers.
  • Demonstrated ability to define quality metrics, identify testing gaps, and use data to improve release quality, team performance, and process maturity.
  • Experience partnering with business systems teams, program managers, and business stakeholders in fast-moving environments.
  • Strong people management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and leading distributed teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI-enabled QA practices in a practical and governed way that improves testing effectiveness without reducing control or auditability.
  • Experience building or modernizing QA capability within Enterprise Applications, or Business Systems organizations.

About the team

The QA Manager is part of the Enterprise Applications team, which is responsible for GitLab's critical business applications, including Salesforce, Zuora, NetSuite, and more. This team helps GitLab scale by delivering new capabilities while maintaining a reliable, secure, and compliant production environment. The team operates fully remotely and collaborates asynchronously across multiple regions, guided by GitLab's values of transparency and open communication. You'll work closely with cross-functional partners across Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Operations to evolve our Salesforce platform and integrated go-to-market applications, balancing long-term platform health with fast-moving business needs.
