Overview

We’re looking for a Program Manager to lead the execution of breadth developer programs that are large-scale, repeatable initiatives that reach and support developers across regions, personas, and technical ecosystems. This role brings operational rigor, strategic thinking, and strong cross-functional collaboration to programs that need to scale globally while staying developer-first. Developer programs are a core part of how GitHub shows up for the developer community, and in this role you’ll help how these programs grow and operate by building the systems and structure that enable inclusive, high-impact engagement across the global developer ecosystem.


Responsibilities

Support and Scale Breadth Developer Programs 

  • Support the execution and iteration of breadth developer programs designed to reach developers across regions, backgrounds, and technical ecosystems.
  • Define goals, success metrics, and execution plans for programs that operate at scale.
  • Contribute to improving the developer experience by ensuring programs are inclusive, accessible, and valuable to a wide range of developers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve existing programs by surfacing insights, gaps, and feedback from developers and internal partners.
  • Work closely with cross-functional partners to reduce friction, align priorities, and keep programs moving forward.

Advocate for Developers and Ecosystem Growth 

  • Understand developer needs and advocate for them within the organization.
  • Represent GitHub in developer conversations, connecting people to the right resources and teams.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships across the developer and open source communities.
  • Connect developers with product teams to provide feedback and shape future direction.
  • Design programs that nurture developer communities and bring community feedback back into the organization.

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Maintain and improve repeatable processes, tooling, and documentation that support consistent program execution across teams and regions.
  • Manage timelines, dependencies, risks, and deliverables across multiple workstreams, keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.
  • Define program goals, success metrics, and reporting to measure reach, engagement, and impact.
  • Leverage data and feedback loops to inform decisions, iterate, and continuously improve program effectiveness.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks and cross-team dependencies.
  • Influence without authority to align stakeholders across functions.

Enable Learning, Content and Events

  • Support developer-focused content and enablement efforts that strengthen engagement and learning.
  • Organise and participate in virtual and in-person events, including meetups, hackathons, and live Q&A sessions.
  • Drive project management for content across formats such as blogs, videos, demos, tutorials, and learning resources.
  • Improve content workflows, tooling, and governance to support consistency, quality, and scale.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 2+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ experience working closely with technical teams, developer audiences, and/or open-source communities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • You have experience presenting technical content at events (either as part of Developer Relations or product teams)
  • Hands-on experience using Git and GitHub, with familiarity in developer workflows
  • Experience supporting cross-functional programs with multiple stakeholders at scale in fast-paced environments
  • Strong organizational and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously, and an attention to detail and follow-through
  • Clear, effective communication skills and comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces
  • Curiosity about technical topics and comfort learning and sharing information with audiences of varied backgrounds.

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is USD $107,700.00 - USD $285,900.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

This position will be open for a minimum of 3 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
