Sonatype is seeking an experienced design leader to develop our people and products as we scale our Product Design practice. Design Managers at Sonatype directly support, mentor, and empower the amazing members of our functional design teams so that they can deliver their best work. They lead design strategy and execution in a domain, ensuring that our product experiences are high value, easy to use, inclusive, and display the highest level of craft.

What you will do

    • Provide direction, inspiration, empowerment, and support to a globally distributed, world-class team of designers and technical writers
    • Understand the technology and features of the areas you and your team are assigned to and have a working knowledge of the end-to-end product experience.
    • Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners; collaborate to set strategy and vision while elevating the voice of the customer.
    • Establish/evolve process as necessary to support the growth of your team and the pursuit of achievable, measurable, and high-value user experience goals; measure and monitor progress and performance against business, product, and UX objectives.
    • Ensure design quality and consistency by practicing and encouraging a culture of feedback and growth
    • Be a champion of design thinking across the org; identity/facilitate opportunities for yourself and the Product Design team to spread design thinking and enthusiasm across Sonatype.
    • Partner closely with design leadership around staffing, planning, and design operations

What you bring

    • 2+ years leading and mentoring teams that work cross-functionally with engineering and product management
    • 6+ years as a practitioner in several core areas of product design, such as information architecture, accessibility, UI design, user research, design thinking, content strategy, and interaction design.
    • Experience driving organizational change with cross-functional stakeholders
    • A well-rounded view of design’s role in shaping strategic and operational product and UX outcomes; comfortable leading all stages of design for multiple teams
    • A passion for building and supporting diverse teams with a wide variety of experience, backgrounds, and interests.
    • Enthusiasm for the future of UX and the courage to lead and pursue forward-thinking design while creating space for team-led innovation
    • A portfolio of work that shows us how you solve problems and empower your team(s) to be successful
    • Transparency, authenticity, and empathy
    • Preferred: Experience working with enterprise software/developer tools or technical background.
