About the job

The Network Development Engineering & Technology team designs, builds, and maintains Twilio’s cloud and network exchange infrastructures. These networks combine to support Twilio’s global communication services and our internal development teams.

The position of Principal Network Development Engineer is a senior position within the NDE&T team. You will be relied upon as a technology leader, bringing your experience and skill set to a collaborative group of professionals focused on delivering solutions via best engineering practices.


In this role, you will:

  • Come together with internal stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and develop network designs and standards accordingly. 
  • Work with our software and cloud network engineering teams to automate deployment and management of the network and related services. 
  • Play a key role in the vendor selection process and advise leadership, focusing on building a world class, highly efficient, global network.
  • Apply your skill set to advise and support operations teams with a hands-on approach.

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a network engineering/architecture role building and supporting edge, core, and cloud network infrastructures and services.
  • Expert-level knowledge of L1-4+ networking protocols, including routing and signaling protocols; e.g., BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS/RSVP-TE. 
  • Extensive knowledge of large scale CSP offerings -AWS, Azure, etc., and expert knowledge working with various hardware platforms; e.g., Juniper, Cisco, etc. in both lab and production environments. 
  • Highly skilled at defining and documenting complex technical solutions, including PoC/Test exit reports, establishing standardization and driving automation to achieve maximum efficiencies.
  • Schedule: ability to participate in an on-call rotation including some weekend and holiday hours in a global follow-the-sun environment
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar discipline. Or equivalent practical experience


  • Experience working on SDN CP/FP abstraction and orchestration highly desired


This role will be remote and based in Ireland or REMOTE in EMEA (UK, Spain, Poland, Netherlands, Germany) 

Approximately <10% travel is anticipated.
