Job Description
Shopify’s growing rapidly in Europe and we have a new opportunity for a PR manager to drive media relations in the UK. The successful candidate will work hand in hand with journalists writing on tech, retail, entrepreneurship, startups and the UK economy. We’re looking for a media relations expert who can build a network of reporters and successful pitch stories about our innovation in commerce and impact on British entrepreneurship. The candidate will work closely with Shopify’s UK spokespeople as well as our partners in marketing, policy and sales. The role will report into Shopify’s Head of Communications, UK and Ireland.
Responsibilities
Drive media coverage of Shopify’s product and company news, case studies on British merchants, and our thought leadership
Build and expand our UK media network to deliver creative local campaigns that drive high-quality earned media results
Support the creation of Shopify’s narrative and messaging for the UK, including the development of briefing materials, press materials, bylines, blog posts, opinion statements and social content
Build relationships with influencers in the ecommerce and entrepreneurship space in UK to inspire them to create and partner on content that extends Shopify’s brand
Day-to-day contact for local agency, including oversight of the PR program
Qualifications
4-7 years’ experience in B2B communications in relevant sectors such as tech, retail and entrepreneurship
Strong media relations experience with a network of media contacts in business, tech, startup and retail publications in the UK
A passion for entrepreneurship demonstrated through work with the UK startup ecosystem and projects to build profiles for UK entrepreneurs
Creative storyteller with a strong instinct for identifying news angles and emerging themes that Shopify can own in UK
Ability to work and collaborate in a fast-paced, dynamic and deadline-driven environment, with excellent judgement and negotiation skills
