Marketing Automation Manager (International Growth) EMEA
About the role
Marketing automation is responsible for ensuring our prospective and current customers are receiving the right email-marketing communications at the right time to help them be more successful in their entrepreneurial journey. From writing queries to segment our audiences, coding responsive and dynamic email templates, setting up and automating sophisticated marketing journeys to nurture a customer through their lifecycle, or running rapid-fire email experiments to validate ideas, marketing automation is a diverse, technical marketing role that wears many hats and has a profound impact to how we communicate with our merchants and market to our key audiences.
We are looking for a Marketing Automation Manager to join our world-class Growth team to help us build and grow marketing automation programs that empower the most entrepreneurs to succeed. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building and managing high volume, data-driven email marketing, and automation programs and processes that drive acquisition, activation, and retention across the customer lifecycle.
We are looking for someone that knows how to systematically validate hypotheses to help unlock new levers for growth while still making improvements to existing programs and journeys via constant experimentation and excellent execution.
Plan, build, and execute industry leading marketing automation programs to Shopify owned audiences using our marketing technology tools
Monitor and maintain a high standard of deliverability and sender reputation across our email platforms and properties
Interpret customer data to identify triggers and behaviors that indicate potential required changes to our programming
Write SQL queries to create segments that support marketing experiments that in turn help drive our lifecycle marketing initiatives
Work closely with key cross functional stakeholders to build scalable marketing automation infrastructure, codebase, and processes across our email templates, data flows, automation and reporting
Work closely with our growth programs, data, product, MUX, and other teams to strategize, validate, and build one-off and complex automated email and cross-channel experiments and global programs
Collaborate with data science and product teams to determine technical requirements to implement marketing automation functionality into our owned properties
Analyze and report on past program performance, and identify areas for testing and improvement
Be a center of excellence and subject matter expert on email design, build, compliance and strategic best practices and tactics.
Strong foundations in coding responsive emails and simple web pages from scratch using HTML, CSS and templating languages like AMPScript, Jinja, Handlebars, etc.
Proven experience in improving email engagement and business KPIs through constant experimentation and optimization at scale
A passion for great email marketing and willingness to get hands on coding emails, building automations and customer journeys, setting up tests, and segmenting data
Experience building and managing email and automation processes and workflows that scale globally
In-depth experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
Understanding of relational databases and comfortable with writing queries in SQL to segment and analyze data to be used for campaigns and automations
Understanding and experience implementing ESP level APIs to trigger and automate emails
Knowledge of email strategies and tactics as it relates to each stage of the customer lifecycle and able to effectively identify actionable messaging opportunities
Strong understanding of email list management and message types, especially in relation to CASL, GDPR and other compliance requirements
The ability to thrive in chaos, resolve ambiguity and think on your feet. You can drive good decisions collaboratively and quickly
Experience with enterprise automation platforms like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Marketo or Responsys
Experience with messaging channels outside email (push, in-app, SMS)
Experience with data management platforms (DMP) and/or customer data platforms (CDP)
