Git Ecosystem Engineer United States

GitHub is looking for a talented engineer to join Git Ecosystem team, working primarily on VFS for Git, Git LFS and other file storage features. The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving the Git experience for developers that work with repositories with extreme amounts of files or very large files.

The Engineering organization is highly distributed and the right candidate can thrive in an environment of asynchronous communication. We expect you to have strong written communication skills and be able to create working relationships with coworkers in locations around the globe.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain VFS for Git features for working with repositories of extreme size.
  • Develop and optimize core Git workflow for large binary objects in Git LFS.
  • Work with the open source community on bugs and feature requests on projects.
  • Develop and scale backend services.
  • Maintain S3 file management services for features like Avatars, Releases, Issue Attachments.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with Git and GitHub.
  • Experience building and scaling services in Go and/or Ruby.
  • Knowledge of best practices: monitoring, alerting, metrics, capacity planning, and automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Git internals is a plus.
