Engineering Program Manager - Trust Assurance, Compliance (Remote, Americas) Americas

Company: Shopify

About the role

As part of the Trust Assurance team, you’ll be a key player in building and operating the engineering compliance programs that govern Shopify’s platform and products. We’re looking for an Engineering Program Manager to join our team and lead our financial compliance programs.

In this role you will have the autonomy to discover, analyse and solve security and compliance issues at scale to support our business decisions and accelerate our engineering compliance programs. You’ll work with engineering and product teams to integrate security and compliance safeguards into our technology and platform in a low friction and high impact way.

Resourcefulness is key - you’ll need to quickly gather context on our infrastructure, systems, software and safeguards to help Shopify continue shipping and scaling while staying secure, trustworthy and usable. If you want to take the lead on work that impacts Shopify’s most dynamic and innovative initiatives, and you genuinely enjoy tackling complex security problems at scale, this is a role for you!

Here’s what you can expect from the role - an opportunity to:

  • Be the engineering leader responsible for owning and leading a compliance program for SOX, PCI, SOC1 or SOC 2

  • Dive deep into a new product or initiative to surface and analyse the impact on security compliance engineering programs

  • Leverage internal data and visualization tools to identify gaps, track progress and inform trusted decisions

  • Be a strong and credible influencer among cross functional engineering and business teams

  • Anticipate changes in our trust and security posture as our technical footprint and company processes change, and help propose solutions to adapt

  • Develop safeguards, process and policies that meet compliance requirements while balancing the need to move fast and stay innovative

It would be great if you had experience in one or more of the following (don’t stress, we are not expecting experience in all of the following!):

  • Strong understanding of information security fundamentals

  • Defining or contributing to technical security compliance roadmaps

  • Identifying, tracking and remediating security risk - while adapting to rapid change

  • Drawing connections between technical documentation, source code, data sources and other repositories of information to build up context and understanding

  • Translating technical jargon and complicated concepts into something simple, accurate and understandable

  • Familiarity with cloud native security concepts
