Data Engineer - Software Intelligence Systems Worldwide

GitHub is looking for a Data Engineer to join the Software Intelligence Systems (SIS) team. SIS owns the tooling, workflows, and production infrastructure for the Machine Learning and Semantic Code analysis teams. The services built by the SIS team help power repository recommendationssecurity alerts, and semantic code analysis.

The ideal candidate has experience with the following:

  • Shipping data products
  • Touching all aspects of development
  • Requirements gathering
  • Data access, cleaning, and analysis
  • Collaborating with machine learning engineers
  • Model deployment
  • ML Tooling/Libraries
  • Measuring product efficacy

  • Work with the team to define a technical strategy for developing a data product
  • Write software to access, clean, and analyze data
  • Assist the Machine Learning team in "outside the model" software development
  • Write Python client libraries used by the Machine Learning team


  • Professional Python and data science ecosystem experience
  • Excellent written communication
  • Ability to thrive with ambiguous requirements

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience developing Machine Learning models
  • Experience with Programming Language Theory (PLT)
