Communications and Education Manager, Security United States

GitHub is changing the way the world builds software, and we want you to help change the way we secure GitHub. We are looking for an experienced Communication and Education Manager to join our remotely distributed Security team.

As the Communication and Education Manager for GitHub’s security organization, you will be responsible for GitHub’s security awareness training program and for educating revenue teams as to GitHub’s security practices. You will also grow visibility of and appreciation for Security concerns within GitHub and partner with teams within security to communicate changes to systems and policies that affect GitHubbers. Finally, you will draft regular internal and external communication on behalf of the Chief Security Officer. An exceptional applicant will have a passion for information security, a critical eye for detail, and a desire to participate in diverse business environments consisting of technical and non-technical personnel.

Your responsibilities will include

Training and Education

  • Own, develop, manage, and execute GitHub’s security awareness training program, including maturing the security awareness training curriculum and monitoring and reporting on training effectiveness.
  • Create an interesting, engaging, fun, and dynamic delivery of security content designed to inspire our talented workforce.
  • Partner with teams within Security to educate revenue teams as to how GitHub can enable customers to meet their security objectives.

Internal communications

  • Define and execute a strategy to grow visibility of and appreciation for Security concerns within GitHub through regular internal engagements.
  • Maintain the Security organization’s internal documentation, points of contact, and overall “front door” to the rest of the company.
  • Communicate IT system, security policy, and organizational changes to the broader organization with empathy and a strong sense of the GitHub voice.

Executive communications

  • Work with subject matter experts across Security to draft regular communications on behalf of the department to GitHub Leadership, Microsoft Leadership, and the broader GitHub community.
  • Prepare executive communications for the Chief Security Officer for both internal and external facing audiences.
  • Author customer-facing technical and non-technical communication in support of incident response efforts.
  • Demonstrate strong partnership with our overall Marketing and Communications teams and strategies.

The minimum qualifications are

  • 3-5 years or demonstrable proficiency in communication, education, or training management
  • General experience in the following disciplines with deep experience in one or more:
    • Internal communications
    • Executive communication
    • Security awareness or other technical training
    • Field enablement education
  • Proven ability to work in an independent manner with minimal oversight, and to work across teams and partner well with people with diverse professional backgrounds
  • Demonstrated program ownership and consistent delivery against commitments, including strong organizational skills, follow-through, and attention to detail
  • Experience working with remote and distributed teams
  • Exceptional documentation and written communication skills

Bonus points if you have

  • Experience working closely with Security teams
  • Exposure to security challenges in complex IaaS and SaaS environments
  • Experience working with git and GitHub
  • Understanding of the developer ecosystem
