GitHub's Community & Ecosystem Engineering Team is looking for a Staff Technical Program Manager to join our team to help grow developer communities and ecosystems around the world.

As a Staff Technical Program Manager, you will report directly to the VP of Engineering, Community & Ecosystem, and work with senior members of the Community & Ecosystem Engineering team as well as stakeholders throughout the company. Our team is highly distributed, and you should embrace an environment of asynchronous communication.

You have the perspective and experience to spot the conflicts between process and tech, resource constraints and dependencies, and can communicate and collaborate effectively with both deeply technical and not so technical stakeholders.


  • Business strategy:
    • Drive quarterly planning process (OKRs) for the C&E leadership team
    • Lead strategic initiatives and key projects on behalf of the C&E organization.
    • Partner closely with other functions at GitHub, and use cross-functional knowledge to understand issues, trends, and perspectives that influence the business.
  • Operational excellence:
    • Design and implement a rhythm of the business (ROB) including leadership team meetings, all-hands, etc. for a team distributed across multiple locations in the U.S. and overseas. Build meeting agendas, prepare and present content, capture and track action items
    • Support a broader ROB that includes fiscal year planning, budget and forecasting, HR, and other activities, in partnership with Finance, HR, and the business manager community.
    • Effectively leverage a diverse set of technologies and tools, including GitHub itself.
  • Culture and organizational excellence:
    • Lead internal communications, culture, and organizational health initiatives to help create a high functioning, inclusive, and happy team focused on the right priorities and values.
    • Partner with HR and business manager community on recruiting, team development, diversity, and leadership initiatives.  
  • Planning & Communications
    • Partner with Community & Ecosystem Engineering leadership to break down current and future work items into ranked technical deployment projects that can be brought in to planning in a sequential manner.
    • Lead and push forward all components of cross functional team deliverables to completion for highly complex technical projects.
    • Clarify and drive project commitments and priorities, establish and maintain clear chains of accountability, while clearly communicating to project stakeholders.
    • Regularly prepare and deliver clear and concise Ecosystem project/initiative updates to the executive leadership team.


  • 10+ years of relevant information technology or software experience required, including at least 3 years in a Technical Project Management, Program Management, or other technical/engineering leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical degree or equivalent experience working in a technical field.
  • Experience working in open-source software environments.
  • Experience building communities & leading large scale projects.
